Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

PUAAMS002B - Search as a member of an air search team

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare for search operations

  1. Operational briefing is obtained from relevant search and rescueauthority.
  2. Aircraft is configured and loaded in accordance with requirements and pilot-in-command instructions.
  3. Involvement in briefings is undertaken.
  4. Incident information is used to determine personal equipment needed for search operation.

Instructions to Assessors

Evidence Guide

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Knowledge and skill in the safe dispatch of target marking and communications equipment from aircraft in flight.

Consistency in performance

In order to assess these performance criteria it may be necessary for evidence to be collected over a period of time.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Context of assessment

Evidence can be collected on the job but may be undertaken in a simulation.

Specific resources for assessment

An appropriate training location/venue.

Access to aircraft and equipment required for learning and assessment activities.

Flight operations for learning/skills development and assessment.

Guidance information for assessment

Assessment with the following units would help meet aspects of holistic assessment:

PUAAMS001B Work in an aviation environment

PUAEME001B Provide emergency care

PUATEA001B Work in a team

PUATE003B Lead, manage and develop teams

PUATEA004C Work effectively in a public safety organisation
